Season 11 – A Very Good Year?

Wow. Dude. My, oh my! Whew! Can I get a witness? Goodness, gracious! [Insert your own cliché here].

This year is going to be good. Maybe real good. We only have 14 spots filled – or is it 14.5 with the Adam Brock cliffhanger? – and I’m seeing a lot of people I like. I don’t recall liking this many people this soon[1]. And, yeah baby! We have a competition for My Girl!

So let’s get straight to it by way of categories. You know how much I love my categories.

My Girl(s):

  • Baylie Brown, who I have been writing about and really liked back in Season 6. And notice I said nothing about her being hot. Oh. I just did.
  • Jessica Sanchez. Wow, that little girl can sing.

Really Like:

  • Phillip Phillips – I just love his offbeat style.
  • Colton Dixon – was a final cut last year so he’s an Idol redemption. I really liked him and was disappointed he missed the Top 24 last year. Like Phillip, I like his offbeat style.

Like:

  • Erika Van Pelt – I like her soulfully rough voice.
  • Chelsea Sorrell – yet another Idol redemption (cut in Hollywood last year) and perhaps a better country singer than My Girl Baylie.

Might Come to Like: Haley Johnsen and Joshua Ledet. I’m on the fence with Haley and while I think Joshua has talent, I worry about him over-singing and the fact that voters tend to reject gospel singers pretty quickly.

Can Sing But I Don’t Like: Creighton Fraker even though I love that his birth father was in an 80s hair metal band. I might have even heard a song of theirs on XM a few months ago.

I Might Come to Like Her but Will Always Hate the Mom: Brielle Von Hugel

America Hates Him and His Mother Probably Doesn’t Like Him Either: Goodbye, Cowboy Hat Dude.[2] We’re glad you’re gone. [Note to Nigel: Please don’t drag him back for a guest appearance in the Finale.]

Has Talent but Will Make Me Nuts: Reed Grimm – this year’s Casey Abrams. I so want to not like him – like last year’s Casey Abrams.

Really? Heejun Han. What are the judges hearing that I don’t?

He Better Make It: Adam Brock. I think he will.

Wow. Dude. My, oh my. Whew! Can I get a witness? Goodness, gracious! [Insert your previously inserted cliché here]. Ten – or is it 9.5[3]? – spots to go. Are there even more people for me to like? Even another My Girl? And is Adam in or out? I breathlessly await the answers to these and other questions?[4]

[1] I probably say this every year.

[2] His name is Richie Law and this will be the last time I mention him.

[3] Adam is halfway there.

[4] Like who is Ben the Bachelor going to end up with?

Jessica blew me away…WOW. I hope she wins. Baylie Brown is so gorgeous that all I can do is stare at her in awe of her beauty when she’s on the screen…lol. And Brielle? Instant dislike…she rubs me the wrong way (along with her mother). I wonder if the public will feel the same way when voting, despite her good voice? And Ray, please don’t talk badly about my Heejun!! I actually was pleasantly surprised at his voice when he sang for the judges…but it’s his personality I’m completely smitten with. I adore him! And he works with special needs children? Gah! I’m done for. I know, I know – it’s a singing competition…can they have an honorary “Mr. or Ms. Congeniality” winner?? 🙂
